Frequently Asked Questions

Q:    How and where do I register?

A:    Registration is now online.  You can register online, pay online or pay by check/money order. Payment must be received within 7 days of registering or the registration will be deleted.
If paying by check, please make check payable to Fauquier Girls Softball Association, P.O. Q:    I am Registering Late, What can I expect?

A:
Late Fees apply after the deadline for registration.  Registrations postmarked after the deadline will not be processed unless the late fee is included.  Please do not call to see if openings exist, your daughter will be placed on a team that is in need of players.  Special requests will NOT be considered.
If openings in the players age division are not available, those who register late will not be able to play this season.   Your registration and Fees will be returned if there are no openings in the players division.
If openings in the players age division are available, those who register late will be placed on teams based on available space (there will be no consideration for geographically desirable team placement).  Your coach will call you when they receive the registration information from the business office.
Those who register late will be required to pay the late fee of $25 in addition to the regular registration fee of $75  (team placement will not occur until all fees are paid).

Q:    How can I request a waiver of registration fees?

Q:    Who do I contact if I have more questions about registration?

A:    Please contact our Registrar.  Email is the preferred method of contact.  Please go to contacts on the left side of the screen for the current registrar.

Q:    What is Rec Ball?

A:    Rec ball is recreational softball for all levels of players.  Players are placed on teams by the registrar after registration has closed.  There are no try-outs.  There are two seasons each year, a spring and fall season.

Q:    What is FURY All-Stars?

A:    FURY All-Stars is a program within rec ball to recongnize spring season players for outstanding play, positive attitude and acceptance of an additional level of commitment.  This program offers those players an opportunity to compete against higher skilled teams through tournament play.  The All-Star program typically includes two post season tournaments in June.    All-Star players are selected through a Coach Selection Process.  For more information about FURY All-stars, click here.

Q:    What is FUSION Tournament Ball?

A:    Fusion Tournament Ball is a program within Fauquier Girls Softball Association for those players and families who want to compete at a higher level of play.  This program requires more time and financial commitment than rec ball.  Players are selected through a tryout process during the month of August.  Players and families make a year round commitment to the team, practicing, playing tournaments, fundraising, winter skills clinics and agility training.  The FUSION Teams will play tournaments and double headers through-out Virginia and surrounding areas.  For more information about FUSION Tournament Teams, click here.

Q:    How old does my daughter need to be to play?

A:    In the spring season your daughter must be at least five (5) years old by April 1st to participate.  In the Fall season your daughter must be at least five (5) years old by September 1st to participate.

Q:    When will the Season start and end?

A:    The spring season is scheduled to start mid March for practice with games beginning early April.  The season should end by late June.  The fall season is scheduled to begin in mid August for practice with games beginning early September.  The season should end by early November.

Q:    When are practices and games?  What day will I practice?

A:    Typically, practices are held on weeknights.  The day a team practices is left up to the coach for each team. Weeknight practices may start any time after 5PM.  Until the games start, coaches may elect to practice on the weekend as well.  Weekend practice days  and times are also set by the coaches.  Once games are underway, most teams will practice only once during the week.  10U, 12U, 14U and senior divisions will play some of their games on Friday nights.  Games on Friday nights will start at 6PM and at 8PM.   All divisions will play games on Saturdays between 8am and 8pm.

Q:    Where are the practices held?

A:    Practices are held on a Fauquier County Parks and Recreation field chosen by the coach.  Teams are created by the area where the girls go to school and then by the area where they live to help reduce travel time for parents and players. We encourage the coaches to practice in the area where most of their players live and go to school.  Sometimes this is not always possible, but every effort is made to make practices convenient for the teams and their players.

Q:    Where are the games played?

A:    Games may be played at any of the fields designated for Fauquier Girls Softball Association's use throughout Fauquier County.  Most games will be centrally located near Warrenton, New Baltimore or Vint Hill, however, games will also be scheduled in Marshall and Bealeton to accommodate and be fair to players from those areas. Click on fields for directions to the various fields.

Q:    For the Fall season, will my daughter play on the same team as she did in the spring?

A:    Yes,  Teams typically remain the same for the fall season.  There may be times when your daughter will be placed on a different team such as when there are not enough returning players to fill out the team or when teams must be combined.

Q:    What are the different divisions and age groups?

A:    There are three basic divisions in our league.  tee-ball, machine-pitch and fast pitch.
Tee-ball is for players 5 and 6 years old.  Games will be shorter in innings, all girls will bat every inning regardless of outs and coaches will be on the field to assist with safety and game play.  Players will use a tee or (at the sole discretion of the coach) be pitched to by the coach.  Scores will not be recorded nor will wins and losses.  This is an instructional division.  Specific rules are posted on this website under Rules and Regulations. This division will be known as Tee-ball and/or 6U.
Machine pitch is for players 7 and 8 years old.  Games will be a little longer than 6U games, three per inning. A mechanical pitching machine will be used to pitch to the players  Scoring may be kept, but wins and losses are not recorded.  This is an instructional division.  Specific rules are posted on this website under Rules and Regulations.  This division will be known as Coach/Machine Pitch and/or 8U.

Q:    Are Uniforms and Trophies provided?

A:    Yes, uniforms and trophies are covered by part of the registration fees and sponsor fees for each team.  Uniforms will be ordered as soon as teams are formed, so it is very important that you include the sizes for your daughter on her registration form.  Remember that uniforms will be used for both the spring and fall season, so parents should choose a uniform size that will allow for growth.  Each player will need to provide their own glove and sliding shorts.  Cleats are recommended.

Q:    Is transportation provided?

A:    No.  Transportation to and from practices and games is the responsibility of the parents or guardians.

Q:    Can I sponsor a team?

A:    Yes, just contact Colin Borgstrom @

Q:    How can I volunteer to help and what positions are needed?

A:    Fauquier Girls Softball Association is a non-profit organization run entirely by volunteers.  Contact any league officer to volunteer.  At the bottom of each registration form is a list of volunteer positions needed. Circle one or more of those if you wish to volunteer.  Volunteers are needed to run the league, coach, asst coach, field preparation, fund raising, and administrative assistance.  If you think there is something that needs to be addressed or taken care of, there is probably a position that needs to be taken.  THANK YOU in advance.

Q:    Can my daughter play in this league and on a travel or school team?

A:    YES.  Travel or school team players are welcome to play in our league.

Q:    What equipment do I need to buy?

A:    The league provides bats, helmets and balls for the girls to use at practices and games.  You are responsible to provide a fielder's glove and sliding shorts.  Cleats are highly recommended.

Q:    I would like to buy a bat for my daughter to practice with at home.  What size bat should I buy her?

A:    Click here for a bat chart.

Q:    What size ball should I buy for my daughter to practice with?

A:    If your daughter plays 6U, she will use an 11" ball known as a "softie ball".  Incrediball, Dudley, Wilson and others make this ball and it is softer than a normal softball.  Sometimes these balls are called practice balls.
If your daughter plays 08U or 10U, she will use an 11" ball .47 core.  These balls are the regular softball used by ASA and other leagues.
If your daughter plays 12U, 14U, 16U or 18U, she will use a 12" ball .47 core.  These balls are the regular softball used by ASA and other leagues.
All balls are optic yellow with red stitching, however, other colors are sometimes available.  Most sports stores carry the 12 inch softball and an 11 inch hard softball.  To get the softie type 11 inch ball you may need to search on the internet.  Below are links to some companies that may have balls and other equipment.  www.softball.com;    www.anthem-sports.com     www.tomark.com      www.bplowestprices.com
